Neutrals at the switch
Most smart switches need a neutral conductor at the switch position, which older UK wiring does not provide. If the walls are open, we run it. If not, that single detail decides which products are possible.
Local control over cloud
We favour systems that work on the local network, with the app as a convenience rather than a dependency. Cloud-only devices stop working when a company changes its business model, and several have.
Keep it boring where it matters
Lighting, heating and door entry benefit from automation. Sockets and safety-critical circuits generally do not. We will talk you out of the parts that add failure modes without adding much.

Can you retrofit without rewiring?
Partially. Battery devices and smart bulbs work, with the tradeoffs that come with them. Wired is better when the option is there.
