EV Charger Installation · from £900

EV charger installation in Crewe. OZEV approved, properly load assessed.

A charge point is a 32A continuous load sat on a supply that was designed decades ago. The install is straightforward. The assessment beforehand is the part that matters.

EV Charger Installation, in plain terms.

Home EV charge point installed on an exterior wall

What it is

Survey, load assessment, DNO notification where required, a dedicated circuit from the board, and a certified 7kW charge point with the right earthing arrangement.

Who it is for

Home owners with off-street parking, landlords adding a charger for tenants, and small businesses fitting workplace units.

When you need it

Before the car arrives, not after. Lead time on DNO approval can run to several weeks.

Why it matters who does it

Charge points must be installed by someone competent under the wiring regulations, and OZEV grants require an approved installer. A three-pin granny lead is not a substitute for a fixed installation.

How we run it

Start to finish.

Fixed price or day rate, whichever suits the job, agreed with you up front.

  1. Survey: supply capacity, earthing arrangement, cable route and mounting position.
  2. DNO notification submitted where the load requires it.
  3. Dedicated circuit run from the board, RCD type A or B as required.
  4. Commissioned, tested, certified, and you get shown how to use it.
The detail

The specifics, for anyone who wants them.

Load assessment, and why it is not optional

A 7kW charger draws 32A continuously for hours. Add an electric shower and an oven and a typical 60A or 80A domestic supply can be exceeded. We calculate maximum demand using diversity to the wiring regulations rather than assuming it will be fine.

PME supplies and outdoor earthing

Most UK homes use a PME supply. Outdoors, a broken supply neutral can put the car body at mains potential. This is dealt with either by an earth rod or by a charge point with integral open-PEN detection. We will tell you which we are using and why.

Load curtailment and smart charging

The Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations require new units to have smart functionality and default off-peak charging. Where the supply is tight, a CT clamp on the tails lets the charger throttle back rather than trip the main fuse.

Straight answers.

Can I get a grant?

The EV chargepoint grant is available for flats and rental properties, and for landlords. It is no longer available for owner-occupied houses. We will tell you honestly whether you qualify.

How long does it take?

Most home installs are half a day to a day. DNO approval, where needed, is the long pole and can take weeks.

Can I have it on the garage wall round the back?

Usually. Cable run length affects the price, so mention it at survey.
